Chief Executive Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said:

Open letter: Rescue world-class intangible cultural heritage and save the crisis of interruption of traditional Cantonese opera (" Shengongxi " performance)

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in January 2020, the Cantonese opera industry has been the first to bear the brunt, and practitioners have stopped talking. Dozens of Shengongxi have been canceled throughout the past year due to the raging pandemic.

It is hoped that the government can immediately restart the following conditions so that Shengongxi can continue to perform:

—The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department will resume accepting and processing applications for "Temporary Places of Public Entertainment License" immediately
—The Leisure and Cultural Services Department immediately resumed lending the venue for theater construction
